SquidCat Thinks
Mango's Adventure Mural
A couple of weeks ago, I spent an absolutely amazing day working on a mural for 934 Gallery! It's something I've never done before and I want to share a little bit about how it went. After putting off getting started on my mural by giving myself excuses that it was too hot, or that I had too much other stuff to work on for a couple of weeks, I finally realized I was really just nervous that I wouldn't be good at drawing on such a big scale or on an uneven surface. So, with the thought that I would at...
Find SquidCat, Ink at 934 Gallery and Carnegie Gallery!
This year, I wanted to challenge myself to branch out into new venues for sharing my art in the world beyond product creation, and I've been lucky enough to hit two goals in one month! I’ve always thought that one of the benchmarks of artistic success is to be invited to paint a mural, so when I saw an opportunity pop up at 934 gallery I decided to apply! Shop Feature: New Leaf
I first knew of Amy Greely through Helen Winnemore's, a gift shop I worked at where they carried her work. She creates gorgeous sculptural jewelry pieces that are modern metal-wrought interpretations of the natural world. Then, I got to meet her when she and Bee Skinner of Warm Glass Wonder came to do a pop up show at the shop. They were both kind and warm, and incredibly encouraging of me and my work, as I had only just launched SquidCat, Ink as a real business. It was so wonderful to have two artists whose work I admired and whose...
Shop Feature: Wing Luke Museum Marketplace
Identity has always been a complex topic for me. Since moving to America, I have always had a sense of unbelonging. My family roots are in India, but I was born in England, and moved to the US in Junior High. I can speak Mandarin fluently but my Punjabi is at a child's level. When people ask where I'm from, I always feel unsure what they're asking. Are they asking why my accent is a bit odd, what part of the world my brown skin comes from, or where I live in currently? Are they trying to identify with me to connect and...
