Birthdays always make me feel a little introspective, so today I wanted to share some of my thoughts with you.
Ever since I can remember, I have loved to draw.
I drew EVERYWHERE, from school notebooks to sketchbooks, to the back of my hand. I dreamed of being an artist, but I was convinced I could never be good enough to do it professionally, since I didn't study it in college.
One day, I finally decided that if I couldn't stop thinking about it, and wanted to get good at it, I should try to draw like it was my job. So I did! I drew every single day for a whole year.
After that year, it turned out that I had something like a real portfolio, and that the little captions I had scribbled next to some drawings would make for great cards... Which is how SquidCat, Ink began!
The name SquidCat is special to me because it's a character I created during the days I spent doodling during class and dreaming of being an artist. I wanted to remember that this little business is something I chose to do because I love it, and because I couldn't STOP doing it.
I am 32 today and feel incredibly grateful and lucky to be able to work doing something I love. It isn't always easy, and there's often a lot I need to learn as I go, but I couldn't be happier with the path I've chosen.
THANK YOU so much for your support. With out you liking, sharing, laughing at, and mailing my work to friends and family, I would not be able to do this thing that I love. Thank you.
